NANAIMO MINOR BASEBALL ASSOCIATION

House Players (9U & 11U):

MISSION:

House Winter Ball is for players looking to find alternative ways to keep their skills sharp and improve their overall athleticism and baseball IQ during the off-season. Players will learn at their own pace with an emphasis on getting it right, not getting it right now.

COACHES:

VIU Head Coach Nick Salahub and his player/coaches will be assisting in each division practice plan with the goal of improving their overall coaching abilities with the guidance of NMBA's Head of Player & Coach Development, Nick Holmes.

Coach Holmes brings twenty-plus years of experience learning and teaching from a progressive growth mindset as a professional coach and MLB scout from the grassroots to the professional ranks. He understands the importance of tapping into an individual's learning process by gaining trust, instilling confidence, and mental toughness through empathy and constant support of continuous improvement.

This program will incorporate the Basic Foundational Skills along with physical and mental training to include:

  • Speed, Quickness & Agility
  • Proper Throwing, Catching & Fielding
  • Approach, Stance & Swing
  • Live BP & Hitting Drills
  • Competitive Games
  • Mindset Coaching

PRIMARY FOCUS

The program is designed for ages 8-11 to improve overall athletic ability with a focus on baseball skills and fundamentals.

 

SECONDARY FOCUS

Improve "Baseball IQ" and keep players engaged while having some fun competing in baseball-related games.

 

DATES

Mondays and Wednesdays

@ 5:00pm - 6:00(9U) and 6:00 - 7:00pm (11U)

Starting: January 31, 2022

Ending: March 9, 2022

 

All sessions will be held at our NEW Batting Cage located at 850 3rd St in Nanaimo.

Competitive Players (13U)

MISSION:

Players interested in trying out for Competitive 13U team(s) are encouraged to attend as many of the winter sessions as possible.

The paid coaches that select these teams will be evaluating throughout the Winter Program.

The 2022 Spring 13U Competitive travel team(s) will hold tryouts in March. They will play from April to August. All selected players will practice and play a different schedule than the House schedule.

Players selected for one of these teams will have the chance to compete in zone playoffs and possibly represent Nanaimo in a provincial tournament.

If selected, there are additional costs and travel commitments to play. Fundraising for all players is mandatory. 

Players that are not selected or choose not to try out will be evaluated and placed on teams to play in the NMBA House League. Your coach will notify you of the practice and game schedule after completion of evaluations.

We will incorporate mental and visual training along with physical training to include:

  • Speed, Quickness & Agility
  • Live Hitting 
  • Throwing fundamentals
  • Defensive fundamentals
  • Offensive fundamentals
  • Player assessment & testing
  • Complete evaluation

COACHES

13U - Thomas Leaf & Collin Borelli

PRIMARY FOCUS

The program is designed for 13u players looking to take their game to the next level and compete against the best talent possible in the Province.

 

SECONDARY FOCUS

Allow NMBA paid coaches to evaluate all interested players for the 2022 Spring and Summer competitive seasons.

 

DATES

Mondays and Thursdays @ 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Starting: January 10, 2022

Ending: March 3, 2022

All sessions will be held at Arbutus Meadows indoor facility in Nanoose or at the NMBA Batting Cages on 3rd St.

MISSION:

Players interested in trying out for Competitive 18U Vancouver Island Mariners College Prep and the 18U Cowichan Valley Mustangs Midget AAA teams are encouraged to attend as many of the winter sessions as possible.
The paid coaches that select these teams will be evaluating throughout the Winter Program.

The 2022 Spring 18U VI Mariners College Prep and 18U Cowichan Valley Mustangs Midget AAA teams will hold combined tryouts during these sessions. If selected, there are additional costs and travel commitments to play. This requires travel to the mainland on specific weekends for league play and tournaments. There is an additional cost to play if selected. Fundraising for all players is mandatory. All players must be registered for Spring to try out for the Summer team.

We will incorporate mental and visual training along with physical training to include:

COACHES
18U College Prep -  Liam Goodall, Aidan Goodall, Tim Bunnett,  Ken Ramwell, Jon Aaron Hop Wo, & Morley Scott

PRIMARY FOCUS

The program is designed for players born in the years 2004, 2005, and 2006 who are looking to take their game to the next level and compete against the best talent possible in the province.

SECONDARY FOCUS

Allow NMBA, the VI Mariners, and the Cowichan Valley Mustangs paid coaches to evaluate all interested players for the 2022 Spring and Summer competitive seasons.

 

DATES

Mondays and Thursdays @ 5:30pm - 7:30pm at Arbutus Meadows

Starting: January 10, 2022

Ending: March 3, 2022

One session per week in Duncan - Times and locations TBA

Monday and Thursday sessions will be held at the Arbutus Meadows indoor facility in Nanoose.
